This is a folding tire. Folding tires have flexible synthetic beads, which make the tires lighter for easier acceleration and climbing, plus make them easier to install and remove, too.

I've put these on my 2005 Roubaix and have not had a flat in the last 1,000 miles. I still carry a spare and CO2 but I'm starting to wonder why.

i've used specialized armadillos on my hybrid for years now (the same set--over 5,000 miles without a flat, and i just changed the tires at around 4,500 miles for the first time), and so when i got a road bike, i immediately put these guys on it and i've been very happy. decent wet traction, no flats, and they're not very much heavier than the stock tires. they're tougher to mount than the stock tires were but i don't think i'll be taking them on and off very often =)
